Home Language Week 2026

Last week, we proudly celebrated our very first Home Language Week at school — a wonderful week dedicated to recognising the many languages, cultures, and traditions that make our school community so special.

The week began with an Opening Ceremony and students creating colourful flags representing their home language, culture, or country. On Tuesday, we organised a Flag Parade through the Soesterkwartier neighbourhood where students proudly wore traditional clothing and carried their flags. We visited our partner school, De Kubus, where our students performed the Jai Ho dance, before continuing to De Magneet, where children from both schools shared their flags and connected with one another.

Throughout the week, there were no normal lessons and our students took part in more than 25 workshops, representing over 15 languages, countries, and cultures. Led by parents and members of our school team, the workshops included art, music, dance, storytelling, cooking, games, and many other cultural activities.

On Friday, we concluded the week with a Closing Celebration and Exhibition. Families visited the school to admire the students' work and enjoy delicious international food, generously provided by our school community.

Home Language Week reminds us that our diversity is one of our greatest strengths. By celebrating our languages, cultures, and traditions, we help our students develop pride in their own identity while building understanding, respect, and friendships across cultures.
